Super Falcons Players Still Waiting for $100,000 Reward

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has expressed frustration over the delay in receiving the promised $100,000 bonus and other entitlements for the players. During an interview on the ‘With Chude’ show, hosted by popular media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade revealed that despite several promises, the players have not been paid.

“We have not received our money. Please, they have not paid. All the promises you heard back and forth, we have not received anything,” she stated.

Money Allocated but Not Received

Ajibade added that the authorities had assured the players that the money had been allocated but nothing had been transferred to the team’s accounts. “People are begging. We have not received it. When they pay it, you will see. Even our match bonuses and everything… everything is still a work in progress,” she lamented.

The 24-year-old forward emphasized the growing frustration among the players as the delay takes a toll on them.

Background of the Promise

The promised $100,000 came after the Super Falcons’ historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph in Morocco. Following the victory, President Bola Tinubu announced the reward as a token of appreciation for the team’s achievement in July 2024. However, months later, the players still await payment.

Ajibade’s Journey and Struggles

Ajibade also shared her personal journey in football. She recalled playing for FC Robo Queens in the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) for 10 years without receiving a salary. She described this period as “a tough moment” and spoke of her humble beginnings in Mushin, Lagos. Growing up in a compound with almost 100 people, Ajibade had to wash toilets and bathrooms for money to support herself.

Ajibade’s Rise in Football

Ajibade’s football career began at FC Robo Queens in Lagos, where she played until moving to Avaldsnes IL in Norway at 17. In 2021, she joined Atletico Madrid Feminino, continuing to rise as a prominent player in women’s football.
