Only President Tinubu Can End Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial – Ejimakor
Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel representing the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has declared that only President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the authority to end his client’s prolonged trial.
Ejimakor made this statement on Monday through a post on his official X handle. According to him, the president can immediately halt Kanu’s prosecution if he genuinely wishes to bring the matter to a close.
He wrote, “As it stands, it lies with President Tinubu to free Mazi Nnamdi Kanu because once the President halts the prosecution, the trial ends. In other words, the buck stops at the President’s table.”

Ejimakor, however, acknowledged that while the final decision lies with the president, the judiciary also plays a crucial role in ensuring justice.
He added, “Nonetheless, the courts can step in to stem the tide of injustice.”
His comments came as pro-Biafra supporters organized peaceful demonstrations across several parts of the Southeast and Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, on Monday. The protesters called for the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), where he has been detained since June 2021.
Ejimakor has consistently maintained that Kanu’s continued detention violates court rulings and fundamental human rights. He emphasized that a political resolution remains the most viable solution, reiterating that President Tinubu’s intervention could restore calm and promote national unity.
