The Tinubu and Shettima rift rumors have sparked reactions from the Presidency, which has now strongly refuted the claims. Officials say the stories aim to stir unnecessary tension and distract from national priorities.
On Saturday, Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), issued a clear and direct response. He described the reports as “mischievous and totally fabricated,” accusing certain individuals of pushing a divisive narrative.
According to Nkwocha, several blogs falsely alleged that Vice President Kashim Shettima was blocked from entering the Presidential Villa. He dismissed the story as the “wildest expression of wishful thinking.” He stressed, “Nothing like that happened.”
Importantly, he emphasized that these efforts were not only baseless but calculated attempts to damage Vice President Shettima’s image. Nkwocha explained that those behind the rumors are politically desperate and morally indifferent. He noted, “Their goal is to distract and divide.”
Furthermore, he reminded the public that this was not the first time such false claims had circulated. Previous attempts, such as fake campaign posters, also tried to suggest discord between President Tinubu and his deputy. However, none of these narratives have held up under scrutiny.
Nkwocha pointed out that the two leaders share a strong working relationship based on mutual respect. “They underestimate the strength of the bond and goodwill between the President and Vice President,” he said.
He went on to assure Nigerians that Vice President Shettima remains focused on governance. “He is committed to helping the President fulfill the aspirations of the people,” Nkwocha added. “There is no room for distractions driven by rumors.”
Consequently, the Presidency urged the media to rely on credible sources. Nkwocha appealed to journalists and bloggers to verify their information before publication. “Spreading fake news only harms national unity,” he warned.
Additionally, he praised Nigerians who continue to support the administration and who challenge misinformation. “We appreciate citizens who push back against these falsehoods,” he said. “Together, we can uphold the truth.”
In conclusion, the Tinubu and Shettima rift rumors hold no truth. The Presidency remains united and committed to serving the country. Despite these attempts to mislead the public, the government will continue focusing on national development and democratic progress.
