Rivers defilement case sparks outrage
The Rivers defilement case has shocked Port Harcourt residents after police arrested a 48-year-old man, Emmanuel George, for allegedly assaulting a 12-year-old girl. The incident occurred on September 6 at Mini Orlu, off Ada-George Road, where the victim, who was visiting her aunt, was attacked while returning from an errand.
According to the police, George lured the child into a stationary tricycle, tied her hands, covered her mouth, and then forcefully defiled her before fleeing the scene.
Swift police response
Police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko said operatives from the CP Strike Force mobilised immediately after receiving a distress call. The girl was taken to the Police Hospital for medical examination. Later that evening, at about 2200hrs, George was apprehended through coordinated intelligence efforts.
Recovered exhibits included a bundle of rope, a wrap of fufu, and the tricycle used during the assault. During interrogation, George voluntarily confessed to the crime and is currently in custody as investigations continue.

Police vow justice and community safety
Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju reaffirmed the command’s commitment to bringing perpetrators of crime to justice. He urged parents and guardians to closely monitor children, stressing that predators often lurk within neighbourhoods.
