Nigeria Police rescue 31 kidnap victims in two bold operations across Edo and Taraba States, proving the force’s intensified fight against violent crime. According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, these missions were part of ongoing efforts to secure lives and restore safety.
The first rescue occurred on Friday, July 11, 2025, around 7:20 pm in Edo State. Suspected kidnappers attacked travelers on the Fugar-Agenebode road in Etsako East, tragically killing two people and abducting others. As soon as the report reached authorities, police officers, along with local security teams, launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation.
They advanced into the Obe Hill region near Ajaokuta, where they confronted the kidnappers. A gun battle erupted. Fortunately, the attackers fled with injuries, abandoning 14 kidnapped victims who were quickly rescued by the team. This swift response saved lives and disrupted the gang’s movement.
Meanwhile, a second operation unfolded the next night in Taraba State. On Saturday, July 12, at about 11:45 pm, armed men ambushed a white Toyota bus carrying 17 passengers from Enugu to Yola. The attack took place just after the bus passed Federal University Wukari.
As soon as the distress call came in, police officers and other security forces mobilized and headed to the scene. Once again, their quick approach surprised the criminals. They fled into the nearby bush, leaving all 17 victims unharmed. Officers safely recovered every passenger without a single casualty.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the bravery and swift action of the operatives. He emphasized that these missions highlight the Nigeria Police Force’s renewed focus on citizen protection. Moreover, he reassured the public that security agencies would continue dismantling criminal networks with greater urgency.
“These results show that when we act swiftly and together, we can win,” the IGP stated. He also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and share helpful information with law enforcement.
