EKEDC Denies Involvement in Badagry Prepaid Meter Scheme

Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has officially denied involvement in the Badagry prepaid meter scheme circulating online. The company clarified this on its official X handle on August 14, 2025, distancing itself from the prepaid meter distribution initiative in Badagry.

EKEDC’s Official Clarification

EKEDC stated that the prepaid meter scheme mentioned in a recent online publication is unrelated to the company. The publication, titled “Hunpe Receives Briefing as 70,000 Prepaid Meter Distribution Kicks Off in Badagry“, suggested the project was part of a public-private partnership with DamLaw Energy Concept. EKEDC emphasized that it had no knowledge of or involvement with the promoters of the scheme.

“We categorically dissociate ourselves from the meter distribution mentioned in the publication,” EKEDC clarified. They further explained that Anthony Adekunle Ogungbemi and Engr. Daniel Adedokun, named as promoters, have no connection to EKEDC. These individuals are not contractors, Meter Asset Providers (MAPs), nor employees of EKEDC.

Official Meter Distribution Process

EKEDC explained that legitimate meter distribution initiatives are always organized by the Federal Government in collaboration with distribution companies such as EKEDC. The government typically precedes these initiatives with clear communication and public awareness efforts.

By contrast, the company pointed out that unauthorized schemes, such as the one in Badagry, often lack transparency, which can lead to confusion among customers.

Customer Advisory

EKEDC urged customers to remain vigilant and verify the legitimacy of any metering initiative before engaging with it. They stressed that the company would not be responsible for any losses resulting from unauthorized meter installations or transactions.

The company encouraged the public to rely solely on official communication channels for updates regarding metering programs. Customers can access information via EKEDC’s official website or directly contact the customer care team.
