The INEC voter registration exercise entered a new phase on Monday, August 25, 2025, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced its nationwide in-person registration. This marks the physical phase of the 2025 Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) following the online pre-registration that began on August 18.
Registration schedule and centres
According to INEC, physical registration will run Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, at state and local government offices across Nigeria. The commission has also published the full list of registration centres on its official portal to guide prospective registrants.
The exercise aims to ensure that eligible Nigerians can conveniently register or update their voter records ahead of the next general elections.
Who can register?
INEC clarified that the following categories of people are eligible for the 2025 INEC voter registration exercise:
- New voters aged 18 and above who have never registered before.
- Citizens seeking to replace lost or damaged PVCs.
- Registered voters wishing to transfer their registration to a new location.
- Individuals who need to update or correct voter details such as name, address, or other information.
Online pre-registration follow-up
For those who already completed the online pre-registration, INEC instructed that they must visit their respective state head offices or local government INEC offices to finalise the process in person. This ensures that biometric data and verification are properly captured before Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) are issued.

Importance of the exercise
The INEC voter registration drive is critical for ensuring that all eligible Nigerians can participate in upcoming elections. It also allows existing voters to maintain accurate information, reducing irregularities and strengthening the credibility of the electoral process.
By combining online pre-registration with physical verification, INEC aims to balance digital convenience with thorough in-person checks, ensuring inclusivity and transparency in Nigeria’s democratic process.
