The Nigeria digital asset markets strategy has officially launched, thanks to a new partnership between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Global Investment Advisory Community. The strategy was introduced during the Digital Asset Markets Strategy Masterclass, held at the SEC’s office in Lagos on Friday.
This initiative aims to show young Nigerians and those in the diaspora the potential of investing in cryptocurrencies using naira. By promoting crypto adoption locally, the strategy seeks to build a robust, homegrown digital asset ecosystem.
Dr Nicky Okoye, global investment advisor and convener of the masterclass, presented the strategy’s framework. He explained that Nigeria’s recently enacted Investment and Securities Act (ISA) 2025 formally integrates digital assets into the national capital market. The Act designates the SEC as the regulator of digital asset activities in the country.
“The ISA Act 2025 provides legal recognition for cryptocurrencies in Nigeria,” Dr Okoye stated. “It also establishes a strong legal foundation for issuing tokens—our key tradable digital assets within Nigeria’s own digital ecosystem.”
The newly introduced framework not only validates crypto assets in Nigeria but also outlines how they can be safely traded, tokenized, and exchanged under clear regulatory guidance. This gives both local and foreign investors confidence in participating in the Nigerian crypto space.
The Global Investment Advisory Community includes some of Nigeria’s leading institutional investors. Prominent members include Meristem Group, CardinalStone, Constant Capital, Anabel Capital, and VFD Group. These firms bring credibility and momentum to the strategy’s rollout.
By targeting digital asset growth through regulated structures, Nigeria hopes to bridge the gap between traditional finance and the blockchain economy. The strategy also promotes naira-based investments, aiming to reduce reliance on foreign currencies and strengthen the local economy.
With the backing of major financial institutions and the regulatory oversight of the SEC, the Nigeria digital asset markets strategy marks a bold step toward a digitally enabled financial future. The plan offers investors new tools to diversify their portfolios while supporting national fintech innovation.
