The Anambra State Police Command has launched an investigation after officers discovered a body found hanging in Anambra, specifically in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area. A mysterious phone call from the deceased’s mobile led police to the scene.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident in a statement released Friday. He said an unknown person used the deceased’s phone to alert authorities. Responding officers located the body hanging from a mango tree inside a bush.
The police removed the corpse and transported it to the morgue. They are now working to identify and contact the victim’s family. So far, officials have withheld the deceased’s name pending family notification.
Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, directed officers to increase patrols and intelligence gathering across the area. He urged the command to uncover the cause of death and take swift action if foul play is involved.
“We received a report about a disturbing incident in Amichi on May 16, 2025,” Ikenga said. “Our officers responded immediately and recovered the body. Investigations are in progress to find out what really happened.”
Initial findings showed the body hanging from a mango tree in a remote part of the bush. The caller who tipped off police remains unknown, but detectives are tracing the number to uncover more leads.
The command is encouraging anyone with information to come forward. Investigators want to determine whether this was a suicide or a more sinister act.
Police assured residents of continued efforts to keep communities safe. They stressed the importance of cooperation between law enforcement and the public to prevent crime and respond quickly to incidents.
