The Kano land dispute resolution clears the way for the Kumbotso–Rimin Zakara 330kV power line project. On July 21, 2025, the Kano State Ministry of Land and Physical Planning convened a meeting to address land dispute issues related to land ownership and compensation, which had delayed the project.
As a result, the long-standing legal dispute has ended. The Kano State Government will now compensate individuals involved in court cases and offer alternative land to others. With these challenges resolved, the project can proceed without further delays.
Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, confirmed that work on the power line will resume. This new transmission line will significantly increase the national grid’s capacity and support economic growth in northern Nigeria.
This Kano land dispute resolution represents a major achievement for Nigeria’s energy infrastructure. With the legal hurdles cleared, TCN anticipates rapid progress on the power line. Upon completion, the new line will greatly improve energy supply to the region, supporting industrial development.
In another report, TCN shared that a vandal electrocuted himself on July 19, 2025, while attempting to sabotage the Nkalagu–Abakaliki 132kV transmission line in Ebonyi State. This incident underlines the dangers of tampering with power infrastructure.
Additionally, TCN has once again warned the public against such activities. The company urges everyone to protect power installations and report any suspicious activity to security agencies or TCN offices.
Recent reports also indicate a rise in vandalism targeting transmission infrastructure. In January 2025, Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu stated that over N9 billion went into restoring vandalized infrastructure in northern Nigeria during 2024.
