Taraba varsity lecturer rescue
Troops of the Nigerian Army, in joint action with the Department of State Services (DSS), have successfully rescued Joshua Saleh, a lecturer at Taraba State University, days after his abduction.
Saleh was kidnapped on July 31, 2025, along the Chinkai–Kente–Wukari Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. His abduction triggered a coordinated response involving both the military and intelligence units.
Coordinated Intelligence-Led Rescue
The operation, based on credible intelligence, spanned several strategic locations, including Kente, Sondi (1 and 2), Yaku, and the Warawa general area. Security operatives launched a well-coordinated search across these areas.
According to Lt. Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for 6 Brigade, the rescue mission faced armed resistance. However, troops quickly gained the upper hand in a fierce exchange of fire, forcing the kidnappers to flee.

Saleh Found Unharmed
Saleh was rescued unharmed and stable after the kidnappers abandoned him. The joint force, operating under Operation Whirl Stroke, brought him to safety and later reunited him with his family.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their quick response and bravery. He urged the general public to stay alert and continue providing useful information to aid security operations.
