The incident occurred in Yakasawa village, about two kilometres from Ringim town, as residents gathered to welcome Governor Umar Namadi for the 15th edition of the “Citizens and Government Engagement Programme.”
How the Jigawa car accident happened
Eyewitnesses said the Golf Volkswagen, with registration number FKJ 102 JB, veered off the road and ploughed into the roadside crowd. One witness explained that the driver lost control while approaching the gathering. “The driver was not in control of the vehicle, and it suddenly crashed into people standing by the roadside,” the witness stated.

Official confirmation and response
Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) spokesperson in Jigawa, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani, confirmed the incident. He said preliminary investigations revealed the speeding driver tried to avoid a pothole before losing control. “The vehicle was carrying passengers when it crashed, injuring 18 people,” he noted, adding that there were no fatalities.
Tijjani praised the quick response of NSCDC and FRSC personnel, who ensured prompt evacuation and medical attention for the victims. He urged motorists to drive carefully, especially in areas with road defects, to prevent similar tragedies.
The incident comes less than four months after a similar crash in Birniwa LGA claimed the life of a former councillor during the fourth edition of the same programme, raising concerns over event safety and road conditions in Jigawa State.
