During a recent Global Workers’ Conference at the Deeper Life International Conference Centre, Pastor William Kumuyi emotionally recounted how his wife’s death changed the direction of his ministry. The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry revealed that his absence from home during a church retreat allowed the devil to strike.
His first wife, Abiodun Kumuyi, died on April 11, 2009, at age 57, following a brief illness. The couple had married on September 13, 1980, and spent 28 years together. Their union produced two sons, Jeremiah and John. Kumuyi later remarried in London on October 13, 2010.
Reflecting on that day, he recalled preaching at the Faith Clinic when tragedy unfolded at home. “I was preaching here on Saturday, 11th April 2009, and the devil worked on my absence,” Kumuyi said. “My wife was at home because she had a challenge. I was driving out, the devil came, but I didn’t remember to close the spiritual door that nobody would sneak into that place.”
He later received a message that changed everything. “When I finished the Faith Clinic that morning, I got the news—my beloved wife was gone. I rushed home and met people praying. It had already happened. The Lord then assured me, ‘Let it go, don’t bother about it.’”
Although shaken by the loss, Kumuyi chose not to remain in sorrow. Instead, he decided to redirect the pain into spiritual strength and action. He said he would no longer allow such tragedy to occur again, describing this resolve as a form of revenge on the devil.
“To fight back spiritually, I intensified my evangelism,” he stated. “Since that time, I’ve visited most local governments in Nigeria. I’ve preached across Africa and traveled to every continent.”
Over the years, his global crusades have produced countless testimonies. “Blind people have regained their sight, deaf individuals have recovered their hearing, and those who had difficulty walking have risen and walked. Now I’m entering a new level—where even the dead have come back to life.”
Kumuyi emphasized that he now maintains total spiritual control over his family and ministry. “Those who have gone are gone. But moving forward, I won’t let anything or anyone steal from me again.”
He closed his message by encouraging others not to remain stuck in grief. “In your family, you will be in charge. Wherever you go, you’ll take charge. Don’t give the enemy room to steal.”
This bold declaration reinforces Kumuyi’s unwavering faith and mission. His journey demonstrates how personal tragedy, when viewed through the lens of faith, can spark purpose, resilience, and global transformation.
