A wave of emotion swept over the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lokoja, Kogi State, on Friday when a man fainted shortly after learning that his wife gave birth to triplets. The man, Adamu Muhammed Tenimu, collapsed moments after hearing the news.
Eyewitnesses said the father became overwhelmed when he discovered that his wife had delivered three baby girls. He slumped to the ground near the maternity ward, and bystanders, including hospital staff, quickly helped him regain consciousness.
Doctors later confirmed that both the mother and her three daughters were in stable condition. The babies weighed 1.8kg, 2.0kg, and 2.3kg respectively and currently receive care at the neonatal unit. Medical staff closely monitor their development and say the newborns are responding well.
After recovering, Adamu spoke to journalists with tears in his eyes. “I thank God for this miracle, but I feel confused and sad,” he said. “We didn’t expect triplets. Right now, we don’t even have the money to pay for hospital bills, let alone take care of three babies.”
He explained that due to financial hardship, his wife couldn’t undergo regular scans during the pregnancy. As a result, they only prepared for one baby. The surprise of triplets brought both immense joy and intense anxiety about their future.
“This blessing is huge, but the burden is too,” Adamu added. “I don’t even have money to buy baby food or diapers. I honestly don’t know where to begin.” His words moved many at the hospital, prompting instant efforts to rally support.
Several onlookers confirmed the situation and called for immediate help. “These babies are healthy, but the family is struggling,” said one relative. “We’re appealing to the government, non-profits, churches, mosques, and generous Nigerians to lend a helping hand.”
Family friends and neighbors began organizing a donation drive soon after the delivery. They called on the Kogi State Government and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to offer support. “Adamu is hardworking and peaceful,” said Mr. Nuhu Alhassan, a close friend. “His family needs intervention, not pity.”
Calls for help also reached philanthropic groups and well-meaning individuals. Supporters urged them to donate baby essentials, food, and funds to cover hospital costs. The community believes no family should face such a challenge alone.
Sikiru Olamide, another well-wisher, shared a passionate appeal. “The joy of childbirth should never turn into fear. We must come together and support this family so they can raise these beautiful girls with hope, not despair.”
For now, the triplets remain in the care of dedicated hospital staff. Their parents, though overwhelmed, continue to lean on faith and community kindness. This incredible birth has touched hearts across Lokoja, sparking a movement of compassion and collective action.
