A deadly Katsina bandit attack has claimed six lives and resulted in two abductions in Jargaba, a village in Bakori Local Government Area. The attackers struck late Thursday night, arriving in large numbers. They headed straight to a spot where local men often gather and began shooting without warning.
They killed two men on the spot and injured several others. Four more victims later died from their wounds, bringing the total number of deaths to six. Panic gripped the community as residents fled to safety.
Police spokesperson DSP Abubakar Sadiq confirmed the incident. He noted that while two died immediately, four others passed away the next day from gunshot wounds.
Sadiq also responded to claims of abduction. “I’ve heard about the kidnapping reports,” he said, “but I’ll need to confirm those details with the Divisional Police Officer.”
State lawmaker Abdulrahman Ahmed, who represents Bakori, also verified the attack. He expressed concern over the rising insecurity in the area.
Ahmed said, “After the attackers left, we discovered two children had also died in the chaos. It’s also likely that they kidnapped two individuals from a nearby home.”
The Katsina bandit attack has once again exposed deep gaps in rural security. Communities like Jargaba remain highly vulnerable to armed violence. Despite multiple security deployments in Katsina, bandit groups still operate with alarming ease.
Residents are increasingly frustrated. Many believe the authorities are not doing enough to protect lives and property. They demand better surveillance, quicker response times, and permanent security outposts.
Attacks like this are not new in the region. In recent years, rural villages across Katsina have suffered repeated killings, abductions, and looting. Each incident leaves a deeper scar on already traumatized communities.
Calls for government action continue to grow. Locals want the state and federal authorities to address the root causes of the violence. They also want stronger collaboration between police, the military, and local communities.
The Katsina bandit attack in Jargaba is a grim reminder of Nigeria’s growing internal security crisis. Without bold and lasting solutions, more lives may be lost.
