President Bola Tinubu has approved a new army depot in Ebonyi. This depot, located in Abakaliki, will help enhance Nigeria’s security. The approval brings the number of army depots in the country to three, joining those in Kaduna and Osogbo.
Strengthening Nigeria’s Army
The Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, shared the news on X. He confirmed the approval, which adds a new depot to the existing ones in Kaduna and Osogbo.
In a video shared by Olusegun, Major General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff, explained that the depot aims to boost the army’s strength in response to security challenges across Nigeria.
Training More Troops
The new depot will train 3,500 additional troops. Another 3,500 troops will arrive next week from Osogbo. Shaibu emphasized the importance of advanced infantry training at the depot. It will include technologies such as indoor shooting ranges to improve the soldiers’ skills.
“These additional troops will undergo advanced training before their deployment,” Shaibu said. “We are using technology, like indoor shooting ranges, to enhance their marksmanship and readiness.”
Enhancing Operational Effectiveness
Shaibu noted that the new depot would significantly improve the army’s ability to address security threats and strengthen its operational capabilities. This effort is part of the army’s larger strategy to be more prepared and effective in handling national security challenges.
Commitment to Improving National Security
The approval follows a briefing from Shaibu to President Tinubu on the state of national security. Shaibu reported that operations in the North-East are progressing well, with better coordination between agencies and increased pressure on criminal networks.
He assured Nigerians that security will improve in the coming weeks. The army is committed to addressing threats across all regions of Nigeria.
