Primate Elijah Ayodele, the Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has caused a stir with his claim that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu plans to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 presidential election. According to Ayodele, the move is being considered as part of a broader strategy to change the political dynamics within the ruling party.
Primate Ayodele’s Warning on Muslim-Muslim Ticket
In a statement released by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Ayodele reiterated his previous warning against Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket, which he claims could lead to Shettima’s removal. Ayodele emphasized that such a decision would have serious ramifications for the ruling party, particularly if the vice president were to be replaced in a contentious manner.
He further warned that if Shettima were ousted acrimoniously, it could backfire, causing the vice president to work against the party’s interests. “If Shettima is removed in a manner that causes tension, he will act against the party’s goals,” Ayodele said.
Concerns Over Northern Governors Joining the Party
Ayodele also raised concerns about the possibility of a northern governor being selected as Shettima’s replacement. He cautioned that such a move could provoke anger and resentment in the northern region, which could have negative political consequences for the party.
“If any of the governors who recently joined the party are chosen from the north, it will cause a backlash,” he warned.
Challenges Faced by President Tinubu
In his analysis, Ayodele acknowledged Tinubu’s efforts and progress but pointed out two significant obstacles: nemesis and betrayal. He claimed that some of the individuals who are publicly supporting the president may actually be working against him. According to Ayodele, some aides close to the president are allegedly blocking access to key people who could offer meaningful support.
On the issue of security, Ayodele expressed concerns about international relations, particularly with the United States. He claimed that despite any efforts to strengthen security in Nigeria, the U.S. government has the knowledge and resources to undermine Nigeria’s security efforts due to its access to sensitive information.
A Political Forecast for the 2027 Election
Ayodele’s remarks paint a picture of the challenges that lie ahead for President Tinubu as he navigates internal party dynamics and external pressures in the lead-up to the 2027 election. The potential for conflict within the party, especially with Shettima’s position, is something that will likely be watched closely as political strategies unfold.
