The Kano Police arrest of a 20-year-old suspect has brought attention to a brutal armed robbery and homicide that occurred in Danbare Quarters, Kano State, on the morning of Monday, May 5, 2025.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by the state’s police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command received a distress call at around 6:40 a.m. from a resident in the area. The report indicated that two suspected armed robbers had stormed the home of Shehu Muhammad, aged 30, and attacked him with a sharp cutlass.

The assailants reportedly inflicted multiple deep injuries on the victim during the early morning raid. Following the emergency call, Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, deployed a team of operational officers and detectives to respond swiftly to the situation.

Officers arrived at the scene and rushed the wounded victim to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for urgent treatment. Sadly, a medical doctor later confirmed Shehu Muhammad’s death due to the severity of his injuries.

Police identified and arrested one of the suspects, Aliyu Umar, aged 20, at the crime scene. Officers also recovered the weapon allegedly used in the fatal attack— a sharp cutlass suspected to be the primary tool of the assault.

The police command has assured the public of its commitment to maintaining security and pursuing justice. Investigations are ongoing to track down the second suspect who reportedly fled the scene.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to report suspicious activity, assuring them that efforts to combat violent crimes in Kano State remain a top priority.
