Davido Cleared in Paternity Dispute by DNA Tests

January 22, 2026

Dr. Deji Adeleke, father of Afrobeats star Davido, has confirmed that DNA tests have cleared his son in a long-standing paternity dispute. The results prove Davido is not the father of a girl named Aanu, who had been at the center of public controversy.

Adeleke made this announcement on Wednesday at his Lagos home while speaking to journalists. He said his team conducted multiple DNA tests at hospitals in Lagos—and all returned negative.

The case began in 2014. That year, Adeleke received a letter from a lawyer in Ibadan. The letter claimed Davido had impregnated a woman named Ayo Labinjoh and abandoned the child. It included a photo of Davido, the mother, and the baby, along with the child’s birth certificate.

Adeleke questioned the document’s details. “Curiously, the birth certificate listed the father as ‘Adeleke David’ and the mother as ‘Adeleke Ayotomide,’” he said. “How can she be Adeleke?”

To resolve the matter, Adeleke arranged DNA testing. His team performed three tests on Davido. Two returned negative results. Technicians discarded the third sample because it was contaminated.

Since Davido has a cousin, Adebayo Adeleke (B-Red), with a similar name, they also ran two tests for him. Those results came back negative as well.

Adeleke described how he handled the situation from the start. After receiving the letter, he called Labinjoh directly—before even contacting Davido. He offered to support the child if she truly was his granddaughter.

He sent his driver to Ibadan to verify her address. Later, he arranged for Labinjoh, her mother, and the baby to travel to Vedic Hospital in Lagos. Davido, his aide Lati, and Dr. Adeleke met them there.

Medical staff collected samples from saliva—not blood, as some rumors claimed. The doctor sent the samples to South Africa for analysis. Both Adeleke and the child’s grandmother signed forms to receive the results.

When the reports arrived, they showed a 0.00% chance that Davido was the father. A second test confirmed the same outcome.

Despite the findings, Adeleke’s family still supported the girl and her mother. They sponsored the mother’s university education and the girl’s primary schooling. However, the mother dropped out after two sessions, while the girl completed her basic education.

The issue resurfaced on January 15, 2025, when an Instagram account linked to Labinjoh posted a plea. It claimed Aanu faced bullying at school and asked Davido for another DNA test.

Davido responded firmly on X (formerly Twitter): “After five DNA tests… she dey crase… she and her mom better leave me the f**k alone and go find her papa.” He stressed all tests had ruled him out.

Labinjoh later shared private messages between her daughter and Davido. But Dr. Adeleke countered that a relative of the girl told him a media personality actually managed the social media accounts—without the family’s knowledge or consent.

Adeleke emphasized his openness to grandchildren. “I have 14 grandchildren,” he said. “What will one more do? But science must guide us. If DNA proves she’s mine, I’d welcome her gladly.”

In this case, however, science has spoken clearly—ending the Davido paternity dispute once and for all.
