PDP Reconciliation Committee Meets Peter Mbah in Enugu

May 24, 2025

The PDP reconciliation meeting Enugu took place on Friday at the Enugu State Government House. Former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki led the delegation that met with Governor Peter Mbah, the South-East PDP leader.

This was the committee’s first stop as it works to address rising defections and rebuild unity in the party. The delegation also included Senator Seriake Dickson, former Bayelsa governor, and Dr. Ibrahim Dankwambo, former Gombe governor.

Why PDP Reconciliation in Enugu Matters

Recently, South-East PDP leaders re-nominated Sunday Udeh-Okoye to complete the National Secretary’s tenure. They made this decision during a zonal executive council meeting. However, they warned that failure to honor the nomination could lead to a regional split from the party.

“In the event that our position is not promptly implemented… the South-East PDP will be compelled to reconsider our relationship with the PDP going forward,” they said.

This warning has sparked concern over potential mass defections within the zone.

Saraki Applauds Peter Mbah’s Role

Speaking after the PDP reconciliation meeting Enugu, Dr. Saraki emphasized why they began in Enugu. He acknowledged the South-East’s long-standing support for the PDP.

“This is the first state we are coming to because we appreciate the importance of the South-East in the PDP family,” he said. “The South-East has played a key role as the bedrock of the popularity and strength of our party.”

He also praised Governor Mbah for his leadership. According to Saraki, Mbah’s work in Enugu reflects what Nigerians can expect from a functioning PDP government.

Moving Toward Party Unity

The meeting focused on the party’s upcoming NEC meeting and national convention. Saraki said they plan to ensure a peaceful and productive outcome.

“We discussed how we will carry out the assignment given to us. We hope to hold a smooth, peaceful convention that will lay the foundation for the PDP we all wish for.”

He added that the team took valuable suggestions from the meeting and would work on them going forward.

Hope for a Stronger PDP

Saraki ended the meeting on a hopeful note. He praised the enthusiasm and commitment of party leaders in the South-East. According to him, the energy displayed in Enugu proves that the PDP can overcome its internal challenges.

“What we have seen today is that there is nothing insurmountable. The commitment of our leaders is inspiring.”

With the PDP reconciliation meeting Enugu, party stakeholders now look ahead with renewed focus. The leadership hopes to rebuild trust, prevent further defections, and restore national strength ahead of key decisions.
