Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi debunks death rumour with a lively performance on Tuesday. The legendary musician appeared strong and cheerful in a video that quickly went viral.
Singing in Yoruba, English, and Pidgin, Obey-Fabiyi dismissed the rumour as a lie. “Satan, you don lose o, you don pafuka,” he sang with energy. He introduced himself as “Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi” and made it clear he was alive and healthy.
“It is fake news,” he said. “It started a few hours ago. The claim that I, Evangelist Obey, passed on to glory is false. I am alive, and that is not the word Jesus has written.”
The rumour began spreading on Monday. Fans flooded social media with tributes, believing the 83-year-old music icon had died. But by evening, his personal assistant, Tope Olukole, debunked the news in an interview with TVC.
“Let’s set the record straight,” Olukole said. “Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi is alive and thriving! He recently attended a celebration — the 50th birthday of his second child’s spouse.”
Olukole added that the rumour was baseless and entirely false. He encouraged fans to ignore the misinformation.
Obey-Fabiyi turned 83 just weeks ago. Despite his age, he remains active and deeply connected to his fans. His swift response showed not just his health but also his enduring spirit.
This is not the first time Nigerian celebrities have been targeted by false death reports. However, Obey-Fabiyi’s joyful rebuttal reminded many of his resilience and positive outlook.
